VILLAGE GENERAL MAINTENANCE

The Parish Council continues to work on improving the appearance of the village.  Unfortunately, Mr Egan was not able to commence general maintenance work for the Council after all, due to personal circumstances.  Although our current contractors who cut the grass verges, have been maintaining the area around the war memorial, it was hoped that this particular area would receive a little more attention.  A lot of time is taken up by continually specifying tasks and obtaining quotes for adhoc work and the Council is now exploring others ways of getting to grips with tasks such as weedkilling, litter picking and repairing items of vandalism.  We are still operating a tasks list so if you wish to add an item, please email maintenance@minsterlovell-pc.gov.uk.

RIPLEY AVENUE
  • Football pitch – The Council recognises that this amenity is very well used by children and that it is in need of some attention.  The goalposts will be moved along the same lines of the existing pitch perimeters and the goalmouths will be refurbished after the summer school holidays.  It is then anticipated that the pitch will be in a more playable condition for the next year.

  • Summer Fun Day Another fun day is being planned for the end of the school summer holidays.   Please keep an eye on the village noticeboards for full details.

YOUR VILLAGE NEEDS YOU!

The Parish Council has recently pledged two large sums of money to help village organisations make the necessary improvements to their buildings.  You may be aware that St Kenelm’s Church needs to raise funds for a new roof and Minster Lovell Playgroup have to find replacement accommodation as their existing 25 year old Portakabin is beyond repair.  These are two huge projects that need your support.  Similarly, volunteers are required to help run St Kenelm’s Hall.  Sadly, Minster Lovell Youth Club has recently closed due to lack of helpers.  If you can help these groups in any way shape or form, it would be really appreciated.  Thank you.

NEWS IN BRIEF

Looking ahead to the next few months, the Parish Council will be working on the following issues:-

  • Pursuing the relevant authorities to have the eastern cycletrack in the Village cleared of debris.  The eastern arm of the one-way system is to be swept through with a roadsweeper and our contractors will now be strimming the grass verges when required (previously not undertaken by Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) but should have been).

  • Potholes and footpath repairs – If you spot that a road or footpath that needs urgent repair, please contact the Clerk or OCC (0845 310 1111).  A number of village footpaths really need complete resurfacing, however these are competing with other county jobs and are not deemed bad enough to get to the top of OCC’s task list.

  • Working with local residents and West Oxfordshire District Council to reduce the risk of property flooding in the Brize Norton Road.

  • Completion of the audit for the last financial year.

  • Starting to organise this year’s Service of Remembrance.  We need more helpers please –  contact the Clerk to register your interest

PARISH COUNCIL MEETINGS

The Council normally meet every third Monday of the month in St Kenelm’s Hall at 7.00pm.  The forthcoming meetings are Monday 23rd August and Monday 20th September.  The agenda for each meeting is posted on the village noticeboards and website at least three days in advance of the meeting.  A question time for parishioners is held at the end of meetings.

If you are unable to attend a meeting, but would like to comment on an agenda item or propose an item for discussion, please write to the Clerk at 91 Brize Norton Road or by email to info@minsterlovell-pc.gov.uk and your comment will be added to the discussion.
